- Instructions on how to enter this competition and descriptions of the prizes forms part of these terms and conditions of entry. By participating, entrants agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.
- The organiser of the competition is Heurisko Limited, Level 2, 5 Durham Street, Christchurch (‘the organiser”).
- Entry is open to all current full and part-time primary and secondary school teachers from both private and public schools throughout New Zealand who:
- are permanent residents of New Zealand;
- possess a current valid passport; and
- Can travel internationally on the dates specified by the organiser. Employees and their immediate families of the organiser, its retailers, suppliers and associated companies and agencies are not eligible to enter.
- The organiser reserves the right to verify the validity of entries and to disqualify any entrant who the organiser believes either has tampered with the entry process or has submitted an entry that is not in accordance with these terms and conditions of entry.
- Submission of entries closes Monday 25 August 2008.
- The finalists will present a poster for judging at the Ulearn 2008 conference.
- To enter, entrants must use the online tool to:
- Explain how they have used technology in an exemplary and innovative way to improve student learning and outcomes;
- Show evidence of outstanding instructional practices; and
- Demonstrate how their teaching has engaged and inspired students, colleagues and the wider learning community.
- Entrants may only enter individually. Entrants may submit more than one entry. All entries must be original works.
- Peers may nominate a person they consider to be an innovative teacher to submit an entry via the submission tool. A peer will complete the entry form and include their own details in the specified area. They will also need to provide the details of the teacher they are nominating and have the teacher complete the details of their work in the fields provided.
- To enter, entrants must be registered users of the Innovative Teachers Network Portal. Registered users can sign on to the portal and access the Innovative Teachers Award tab on the home page. Entrants’ submission can be no more than 5 Megabytes (5MB) in total.
- This is a competition of skill. Chance plays no part in determining the winners. Each entry will be individually judged based on the merit of their submissions as required under Condition 6 above. A judging panel appointed by the organiser will select the finalists from the entrants.
- The finalists will present a poster for judging at the Ulearn 2008 Conference. Finalists must notify the organisers within 5 working days of notification of their selection as a finalist if they choose not to submit a poster at the Ulearn Conference. Each finalist who goes on to submit a poster for judging at the Ulearn 2008 Conference will receive the following prizes: a) ‘PiL Innovative Teacher Certificate’ and b) IT products to the value of $250.
- A judging panel appointed by the organiser will judge the posters submitted by finalists on Thursday 9 October at the Ulearn 2008 Conference. Four winners will be announced at an awards event at the Ulearn Conference.
- Each of the four winners will receive the following prize:
- ‘PiL Innovative Teacher Award’ and
- A complimentary trip to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to attend the Microsoft Asia Pacific Innovative Teachers' Conference from the 9th to the 11th June 2009 (dates and venue subject to change). The prize includes return economy airfare from the winner’s nearest city, hotel single accommodation for four nights.
- Each of the four winners will be required to present their poster at the Microsoft Asia Pacific Innovative Teacher’s Conference in 2009.
- The national winner selected from the group of New Zealand winners at the Microsoft Asia Pacific Innovative Teacher’s Conference in 2009 will receive the following prizes:
- A complimentary trip (return economy class airfares and accommodation for four nights) for one to attend the Worldwide Microsoft Innovative Teachers’ Conference in 2009. Exact dates and venue to be confirmed from June 2009.
- In the event that for any reason whatsoever any person does not take an element of the prize at the time stipulated by the organiser then that element of the prize will be forfeited by that person and cash will not be awarded in lieu of that element of the prize.
- Prizes are subject to flight and booking availability and travel arrangements are at the organiser’s discretion and dependent on winners' nearest airport. Travel prizes cannot be varied. Partners, family members or friends are not permitted to travel or be accommodated with the winners.
- Before each prize is awarded, the winners will be required to sign a declaration of eligibility and release form to release the organiser, (and their affiliates, retailers, suppliers, and associated companies) from and indemnify the organiser, (and their affiliates retailers, suppliers, and associated companies) against any and all liability in connection with the competition or arising from the use or participation in the prize and confirming compliance with these terms and conditions. Each winner acknowledges and agrees that he or she may be required to participate in the following activities without further compensation to them:
- Work with any designated agencies on providing mini-cases of their submission;
- Present their work and participate in, events from time to time;
- work with the organiser and any designated agencies or associated companies to submit additional resources and lesson plans to websites or the Innovative Teachers Portal and printed marketing materials from time to time (permission to use actual content would be cleared by the teacher before publication);
- be available to work with the organiser or associated companies on associated media and PR releases (selected teachers only);
- Agree to take part in other competition activities which may include press interviews.
- The organiser accepts no responsibility for any variation in the value of a prize. Incidentals such as Internet, transfers, telephone, mini bar, costs associated with passports are not included.
- Prizes are not transferable, exchangeable or redeemable for cash. If the organiser is unable to supply the nominated prize, the organiser reserves the right to supply another prize of greater or equal value.
- The organiser takes no responsibility for lost, damaged, misdirected, late or illegible entries, incorrect or inaccurate transcription of entry information, for system failures at the handling house, or for any human error, technical malfunctions, lost/delayed data transmission, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, line failures of any telephone network, computer equipment, software, inability to access telecommunications network services, or any other error or malfunction. Neither can the organiser be held responsible for the failure to fulfil the obligations of any of the third parties involved in this competition.
- The judges’ decisions of all stages in the competition are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- All entries, submissions and posters become and remain the property of the organiser and any associated companies. Entries will be deemed void if stolen, forged, mutilated or tampered with in any way.
- It is a condition of entry that prize winners consent to the use of their name, address and image for promotional purposes without further compensation to them. In the event that a prize is not claimed, the judges may select an alternate winner to receive that prize.
- The organiser reserves the right to cancel or amend this competition due to events arising beyond its control. The organiser is not responsible for any third party acts or omissions.
- Any costs associated with accessing the competition website is the entrant's responsibility and is dependent on the Internet service provider used. Any contact details entered incorrectly on the website shall be deemed invalid.
- Except for any liability that cannot be excluded by law, the organiser (including their officers, directors, shareholders, employees, advisors, assignees, agents, licensees, representatives, advertising and promotional agencies) exclude all liability (including negligence), for any personal injury or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity), whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of the competition, including, but not limited to, whether attributable to ay of the following:
- any technical difficulties or equipment malfunction (whether or not under the organiser’s control);
- any theft, unauthorised access or third party interference;
- any entry or prize claim that is late, lost, altered, damaged or misdirected due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of the organiser;
- any variation in prize value to that stated in these Terms and Conditions;
- any tax liability incurred by a claimant or entrant; or
- Use of a prize.
- Personal information provided by the entrants will be collected and used by the organiser and its retailers, suppliers and associated companies and agencies for the purposes of conducting this competition (which may include disclosure to third parties for the purpose of processing and conducting the competition) and for publicity purposes surrounding this competition. Such personal information will be held by the organiser at the addresses set out in clause 2. Under the Privacy Act, entrants have the right to access and correct the personal information they have provided. By entering this competition entrants consent to the use of their information as described. The organiser will only use personal details for marketing purposes outside those described above, if you "opt in" to join the mailing list when prompted.
