Getting Started on the Innovative Teachers Network
This document will walk you through the steps of registering, familiarizing yourself with the network, creating a profile and accessing the ITN Forum Community.

Part 1: Registering on the ITN – create a username and password that you can use to access the ITN anytime.

a) Go to the ITN: http://apac.innovativeteachers.com
b) Click on “Join the Network” in the top left corner:
c) Complete the Registration Form
d) Be sure to enter the security code at the bottom of the form and check the box agreeing to the terms of service. When complete, click the submit button.
e) Congratulations! You are now a member of the ITN!
When you have successfully registered, you will receive a confirmation on the next screen. Either prints this information or write down your User ID and password and store in a location you will remember. Then scroll to the bottom of the screen and click on:

Moving forward, each time you visit the ITN, simply click the Sign In button at the top...

….and enter your User name and Password in the box that appears. Make sure to type APAC\ before your username. Ie. APAC\jsmith

Part 2: The ITN Home Page – familiarize yourself with how the ITN works and how to navigate it.
Once you sign into the network, you will be brought to the ITN Homepage:

The Navigation tabs across the top of the screen help you access different parts of the site. Within the Home Page content area you can see the latest Features, Communities and Resources that have been added to the network.

At any time, you can navigate back to the home by clicking on the Innovative Teachers Network logo in the top left corner.

Part 3: Setting up your “My Site” – set up your personal site for documents, tasks and workspaces.

a) Now, let’s get your MySite set up. MySite is your dedicated personal site – you have a single location to store documents and pictures, keep a calendar, links and other information. You can also present documents to other people, create your own workspaces, provide information about yourself to other people and learn about the status of your colleagues. 
b) From the top navigation tab, hover over the words Innovative Teachers and then click on My Site.
c) It will take a few minutes for your MySite to load, but you’ll eventually get to the following screen. Feel free to look through and familiarize yourself with this page.
You can return to the main area of the Innovative Teachers Network at any time by clicking back in the top left corner of the page.

Part 4: Setting up your “My Profile” – set up your public profile page.

a) Now, let’s get your My Profile set up. My Profile is your public profile page, and allows you to share who you are, and what your interests are with other members.  But, with MyProfile, you can control what content you shared with others.
From the top navigation tab, hover over the words Innovative Teachers and then click on My Profile.
b) Now you will be brought to the My Profile Page. You can set up your profile by clicking on the “Edit Details” Button.
c) Edit your profile details and then click Save and Close.
This will update your profile info and bring you back to the original Profile Page. To go back to the home page, click on the back button.

Part 5: Joining Communities

Now that you have registered and set up your personal information, its time for you to collaborate with others! Communities are at the heart of the Innovative Teachers Network, providing a central location for educators to meet, share, discuss and contribute on topics of interest to a specific community of practice.
a) Navigate back to the ITN homepage by clicking on the words Innovative Teachers Network in the top left corner.
b) Next, click on the “Communities” Navigation Tab at the top.
c) Scroll down to the bottom of the page to the Recent Communities section and click on a community that you’re interested in joining
d) You will then be brought to the Overview page for the Community. Click on View / Join Community at the bottom
e) You will now arrive at the Community of your choice.
The community consists of several sections. In the left pane, you can see the other members of the community. In the right pane is the community itself, which consists of Announcements, Links, Discussions, Events and Shared Documents.
f) Contacting other members. On the left side of the screen is a listing of all the members within the ITN community. To contact a member, simply click on the member name to get forwarded to their personal information page and you can find their email address there.

Part 6: Posting and responding to discussions

Discussions are a great way for you to collaborate with the ITN participants. Feel free to respond to a discussion thread, or start your own.

Posting a Discussion Thread?
From the Discussions menu, click on New and then click on Discussion.
Enter your discussion subject and body before clicking ok to post your discussion.
Your discussion will now be posted

Responding to a Discussion thread?
Simply click on the name of the discussion thread you want to respond to. You can click on Reply in the top right corner.
